The national finals of the 13th “Challenge Cup” Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students recently came to an end in Beijing. After the intramural preliminary contest, provincial semi-finals and national finals, our “Electric High-speed Rail Butler—Fluorescent Thermoprobe-based Temperature Control Technology Pioneer” project won the Bronze Award in the Technical Innovation and Future Industry Group under the guidance of our teachers Tai Baoqing, Liang Mingliang, Liu Hui, Chong Ju, and Zhang Yan. It was the first national prize to be awarded to ZZRVTC at the “Challenge Cup” Competition, indicating the new breakthroughs made by the college.

Hosted by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, China Association for Science and Technology, All-China Students’ Federation and Beijing Municipal People’s Government, and organized by the Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League and Beijing Fangshan District People’s Government, this year’s competition focused on cultivating talented individuals for the Party and highlighting digitalization. It was attended by 1,424,000 students from 3,011 institutions of higher learning, with a total of more than 330,000 innovation and entrepreneurship programs received.

The content of the “Electric High-speed Rail Butler—Fluorescent Thermoprobe-based Temperature Control Technology Pioneer” project is as follows: when rare earth is stimulated by light, fluorescent afterglow can be measured to accurately retrieve cable temperature. This means that an early warning can be given to prevent excessively high temperature from causing damage to cables, resulting in an electrical accident. The accuracy of the probe goes up to 99.68%, with optical fiber transmission technology adopted to resist electromagnetic interference, making it possible to conduct online monitoring in real time. In addition, only optical signals are used at all times, with no need for a power supply, increasing device reliability during operation.

During the preparation activities, college leaders heard a number of reports and gave guidance and support for solving any difficulties and problems. The teachers and students worked hard around the clock, overcoming various difficulties. They went to railway stations and depots to perform field investigations and gain practical experience, polishing their work to perfection. One national invention patent and two utility model patents have been granted for this project, which has since been applied at the China Railway Xi’an and Zhengzhou sections, receiving positive feedback that it can effectively prevent electrical faults and fire accidents. As a result, the technology has already been recommended by authoritative industry experts and recognized by insiders.

The “Challenge Cup” Competition is one of the most eye-catching national entrepreneurship contests for Chinese college students. The college achieved a good result at this competition, demonstrating the progressive and youthful charm of ZZRVTC students. This is a result of our long-term focus on educating students in innovation and entrepreneurship. ZZRVTC will take the opportunity of the “Challenge Cup” Competition to continue adhering to the tenets of practical education, summarize the experience amassed during the competition, actively guide young students in learning professional skills, raise overall awareness of innovation, and enhance their entrepreneurial abilities. In this way, the college will help them achieve better all-round development, enabling them to make greater contributions to Chinese-type modernization.
